Not a typical politician.

A nurse. A volunteer. A mother and daughter. Someone who has spent her whole life showing up for people who needed it most — and is ready to do it for Nanaimo.

Her story

Marnie Boers was born and raised in Nanaimo. She is now raising her two teenage children here who are both involved in sports and local volunteerism. 

As a Registered Nurse with nearly 20 years of experience, Marnie currently works on the frontlines at the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital Emergency Department. Prior to working in the Nanaimo Emergency Department, she worked closely with our cardiologists in the echocardiography department to perform specialized cardiac diagnostic testing. Through her experience as a registered nurse in both emergency and cardiac care, she sees firsthand the strengths of the local healthcare system and the challenges faced by patients and their families. 

For the past five years, Marnie has also been actively involved with local non-profits working in low-barrier spaces supporting Nanaimo’s unhoused and low-income community members, as well as supporting women and their children who have experienced intimate partner violence and coercive control. She has organized annual workshops for frontline workers focused on intimate partner violence, including the impacts of brain injuries, coercive control, and the importance of legislation such as Keira’s Law.

Marnie earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from UBC Okanagan in Kelowna, BC and is currently completing her Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology. She lives with her two teenagers, dog Mable and cats in Harewood.
